Love suffers long

“Love suffers long.” I Cor. 13:4 (NKJV)

This is a better translation than the modern versions which say “Love is patient.” Patience may mean politely waiting and not losing your temper. But the Greek word used here means something deeper. It means:
1. to be of a long spirit, not to lose heart
1. to persevere patiently and bravely in enduring misfortunes and troubles
2. to be patient in bearing the offenses and injuries of others, and to be longsuffering, slow to anger
Love perseveres through every negative emotion, conflict, and setback.

Love presses on in faith when there is no human reason left for faith. Love keeps on loving. It never gives up and never gives in because it’s the way Christ loves us. Love overcomes fear through faith in God.
