Step One: Clear and Prepare

First, we (actually, I ) had to clear and prepare the ground that we had selected. This was my specialty. If that area of soil had been left untended for years, it was usually overgrown with weeds or filled with rocks. But it didn’t take much skill or knowledge to break up the soil and to rip rocks and weeds out of the ground. It was hard, sweaty work, but I usually enjoyed it because at the end of the day, I could see progress. I took pride in transforming that rough, patchy, rocky piece of forsaken earth into a clear, leveled piece of land that was now ready for planting.
